Teaching and Learning

　　Since its establishment more than 20 years ago, School of Stomatology has developed into a first-rate national training site for oral specialty, strong in faculty and advanced in teaching facilities. There are 7 teaching groups (namely oral medicine, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, preventive pediatric dentistry, oral basics, and oral moral education), with a teaching faculty and staff totaled to more than 300. It is also a mobile center for post-doctoral research and a unit having the right to grant doctorates in primary disciplines. Currently there are 8 PhD student supervisors, 23 MS student supervisors, more than 80 graduate students, about 100 undergraduates and 90 seven-year MS candidates. Every other year, an additional 40 students will be here to study restoration arts and crafts. This college also shares the teaching tasks of Capital Medical University, ranging from undergraduate to post-doctoral level. It is also responsible for some of the administrative work of continued education for faculty and staff.

　　The school passed the evaluation of undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education in 1998, and in 2004 the re-evaluation of a training site for national life science and technology personnel. An annual conference is called to exchange teaching experience and praise outstanding teachers. During the past five years, 0.8 to 1 million yuan is invested annually to improve teaching facilities.

　　This school is not only one of the six teaching units that have the right to grant MS and PhD degrees, but also a unit having the right to grant doctorates in primary disciplines, a mobile center for post-doctoral research and a training site for life science and technology for the Ministry of Education. Under the primary discipline, the school offers three secondary discipline programs in oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and prosthodontics and orthodontics. Meanwhile, oral clinical medicine is a key discipline of Beijing city, and orthodonitics a key discipline of Beijing Public Health Bureau.

　　With 60 years of medical practice and 22 years of teaching activities, we have formed a team well balanced in age, education background and academic title whose specialty covers medical treatment, teaching, research and disease prevention. Every discipline has evolved its own characteristics and technical strength. Moreover, we have helped train numbers of backbone professionals in various disciplines.

　　The development of the hospital and oral medicine education has facilitated our exchange activities with overseas medical schools. Ever since 1984, we have established cooperative relationship with 6 countries/regions including Japan and the United States. We are sending 15 to 20 medical workers every year to these countries/regions to visit or do research work. We are also receiving 30 to 50 overseas scholars to visit or lecture in our hospital.
